North Broward Preparatory School Programs

Program - Advanced Placement (AP)

Advanced Placement (AP) is a program and final placement exam that can be used for college admission.  Advanced Placement is suitable for students who are ready for challenging assignments and independent research.

The AP program allows academically successful students to be brought together to teach them a portion of subjects at the university level, which will later serve as the basis for exemption from the entrance exam and introductory coursework in the specified discipline.

AP has been available at the school since 1998. This program was developed by the College Board to enhance learning opportunities in high school. It is a rigorous and academically impeccable national-level program that offers students college-level preparation adapted for entry into one of the institutions of higher learning. Equivalent to a college-level semester.

The teaching staff provides an educational environment that allows students to master the program at an advanced level, ahead of their years. Upon completion, students take exams that combine tests, free responses, and essays and problems.

At NB, Advanced Placement students study:

  • Geography;

  • World History, U.S. History;

  • Basics of U.S. government, law and politics;

  • Psychology;

  • Music Theory;

  • Fine arts (with the formation of a portfolio);

  • Mathematics and Statistics;

  • Physics, Biology, Chemistry, and other exact and natural sciences;

  • Computer Science and Fundamentals of Programming.

The course success check allows educational organizations and students to understand whether students are doing well enough to succeed in an undergraduate program, and having an AP mark on a student's transcript on admission usually provides additional points.

Other important AP values include a strong work ethic, a creative approach to problems, stamina, and stubbornness.

Program - International Baccalaureate (IB)

International Baccalaureate (IB) is an internationally recognized academic program that is unwavering in its commitment to high academic standards, making it easy for students to apply to top American, Asian, and European universities. NB received IB accreditation in 2008.

The strengths of the International Baccalaureate traditionally include an emphasis on the academic component, brilliant and varied language education, and thoughtful and flexible programs. It consists of several levels, each of which is a separate program and separate accreditation:

  • Career-related Program (for graduates).

This comprehensive course is designed to help students from around the world prepare to take that next big step. It is well known that the university bench is often intimidating for teens in the final stages of high school. This challenging and exciting course is designed to give teenagers confidence, help them overcome this difficult stage and overcome all the challenges of higher education.

IB is interested in students who are independent, erudite and free of prejudice; a team of professional teachers who work closely with students and are willing to take any troubles and difficulties as their own are responsible for the success of the program.

Upon completion of the IB course, students also receive support for admission and employment.

The program is designed to ensure students' social, mental, physical and academic well-being. It includes 6 subject groups that include different sets of disciplines. Typically, Diploma students are educated in 3 basic level courses and 3 advanced level courses; in addition, creative disciplines, cognitive theory, extended essay preparation, and related theoretical and practical skills are important.

Program - High School Diploma

The High School Diploma is an American program designed to summarize a high school education. It is designed for a four-year term - grades 9 through 12. U.S. public schools offer this program, and at the end of it you will receive a diploma or certificate, which allows you to enter an American university.

The requirements and content of the program within the country may differ from state to state or county to county, but they are usually identical overseas.

NB traditionally allows all students the chance to make the most of a friendly atmosphere that motivates them to excel academically. The experience of the teachers and support staff in conducting classes, combined with a successful applicant preparation program and counseling support, produce high results in admission to selected universities around the world. All students may count on personal consultations with the representatives of the school administration. Students receive individual recommendations each year, and in the spring they correct the curriculum for the following year by discussing it with the teachers.

In order to graduate, students must earn 24 credits; a one-year course costs 1 credit, 1 trimester 1/3. NB students typically take:

  • 4 years of math;

  • 3 years of science (from biology to physics);

  • 4 years of English + 2 years of an additional foreign language;

  • 4 years of social and social sciences;

  • 4 trimesters of technology or arts;

  • 3 trimesters of sports of varying degrees of intensity in individual or group physical education classes;

An important element is the work of NGOs, social projects or community organizations; each student must complete a minimum of 100 hours.
