Program - Advanced Placement (AP)

Advanced Placement (AP) is a program and a set of final qualification exams, the results of which can be used for college admissions. Advanced Placement is suitable for students who are ready to tackle complex tasks and engage in independent research.

The AP program allows academically successful students to be taught certain subjects at a university level, which can later serve as a basis for exemption from entrance exams and introductory coursework in that discipline.

AP has been available in schools since 1998. This program was developed by the College Board to expand learning opportunities in the senior years of high school. It represents a rigorous and academically rigorous national-level program that offers students college-level preparation tailored for admission to higher education institutions. It is equivalent to a semester of university-level coursework.

The teaching staff creates an educational environment that enables students to master an advanced curriculum, often ahead of their years. Upon completion, students take exams that combine testing, free responses, as well as essays and problem-solving.

In NB, students studying Advanced Placement study:

  • Geography
  • World History, US History
  • Foundations of Government and US Politics
  • Psychology
  • Music Theory
  • Visual Arts (with the formation of a portfolio)
  • Mathematics and Statistics
  • Physics, Biology, Chemistry, and other exact and natural sciences
  • Computer Science and Fundamentals of Programming

Monitoring the successful completion of the course allows educational organizations and students to determine whether the students' level of preparation is sufficient for successful undergraduate program enrollment, and having an AP mark on a student's transcript typically provides additional points.

Among other important values of AP are a strong work ethic, a creative approach to problem-solving, perseverance, and determination.
